Study Regulations

The IGSSE Research Training Program (RTP) regularly lasts 6 semesters for grant-supported IGSSE members (scholarship holders). Doctoral candidates who follow an individual doctorate as research associates at the university or high school teachers who perform a part-time Doctoral program (associate IGSSE members) are allowed to spread the RTP over 12 semesters.

Accreditation of Courses

  1. IGSSE credits are awarded for the attendance of lectures and participation in courses of the curriculum's focal areas A-D.
  2. Since independent research is considered to be the indispensable core objective of IGSSE's program, the number of credits required to successfully graduate from IGSSE and to receive the IGSSE Certificate is restricted to 50.
  3. A minimum of 5 credits (area C: 15 credits, area D: 9 credits) and a maximum of 20 credits from each of the focal areas A-D will be tallied against the required 50 credits.

Confirmation of Course Participation:

  1. Successful participation in the lectures/courses and the credits awarded are certified by the course instructors, according to their expertise in the relevant subject.
Credits for courses at institutions other than TUM may be granted, subject to the supervisors’ approval and the courses' compatibility with IGSSE courses in terms of form and content.
  2. The Doctoral candidates’ mentors certify the successful participation in the disciplinary and scientific skill trainings and calculate the credits to be awarded.
  3. The Doctoral candidate keeps track of the courses taken and the credits awarded during one semester on his/her Academic Record Sheet (ARS).

Recognition of Credits:

  1. At the end of the semester, the supervisor/mentor or Project Team leader approves all the credit calculations on the ARS with his/her signature.
  2. The ARS needs to be turned in to the IGSSE Management Office by the end of the month following the semester in order for the credits to be recognized.
  3. The IGSSE office regularly notifies the Doctoral candidates about their study progress and the credits acheived.
